Engineering jobs with visa sponsorship in the UK
Some UK engineering employers can sponsor a Skilled Worker visa. This page lists live jobs from employers on the Home Office register of licensed sponsors, and adverts that say sponsorship is offered. A licence is not a promise that a job is sponsored: since 22 July 2025 most roles need to be degree level or on the Temporary Shortage List.

What the tags mean, and what they do not
The Home Office publishes a list of UK organisations that hold a licence to sponsor workers for a visa. A job is tagged Licensed visa sponsor when its employer is on that list as an A-rated sponsor on a worker route. A job is tagged Sponsorship offered when the advert itself says the employer may sponsor.
A licence does not mean this job is sponsored. An employer can hold a licence and still not sponsor a particular role, and a visa has rules about the job and the pay that the employer and the Home Office decide, not us. Always check with the employer before you rely on it. Jobs placed by recruitment agencies are never tagged as licensed sponsors here.

Never pay anyone for sponsorship
Genuine employers do not charge you for a job or for a certificate of sponsorship. If someone asks for money for sponsorship, a job offer or a visa, it is a scam. Do not pay, and report it to the police.
What EDWartens does and does not do
EDWartens does not sponsor visas and does not give immigration advice. This page only shows where an employer appears on an official list or says so in its advert.

Rules at a glance, checked 24 October 2026
These are the Skilled Worker rules that matter for engineering jobs. They change, so read GOV.UK before you act. This is not immigration advice.
- General salary threshold: £41,700 a year, or the going rate for the occupation code if that is higher.
- Lower threshold: £33,400 can apply in some cases outside healthcare and education.
- Skill level: since 22 July 2025 the route generally needs a job at RQF level 6 (degree level). Medium-skilled jobs (RQF 3 to 5) qualify only if they are also on the Temporary Shortage List and meet the salary rules.
- Extensions: people whose first certificate of sponsorship was issued before 22 July 2025 can still apply for medium-skilled jobs.

Temporary Shortage List: engineering rows
| SOC | Job type | Standard rate |
|---|---|---|
| 3112 | Electrical and electronics technicians | £39,300 |
| 3113 | Engineering technicians | £42,500 |
| 5223 | Metal working production and maintenance fitters | £39,300 |
| 5241 | Electricians and electrical fitters | £38,800 |
| 5249 | Electrical and electronic trades n.e.c. | £45,800 |
The list was published on 22 July 2025 and expires on 31 December 2026. The Migration Advisory Committee's report of 23 July 2026 recommends a smaller list (28 occupations instead of 52) for an initial 18 months. The government had not decided when we checked, and we could not confirm which engineering codes would stay. We update this page when it does.

Outside the UK?
Outside the UK? Five steps
- Check the Home Office register. Search the employer's name on the register of licensed sponsors (opens in a new tab) before you reply to an advert.
- Confirm the occupation code and the rate. Look up the job's SOC code and its going rate on GOV.UK (opens in a new tab), and see whether it is degree level or on the Temporary Shortage List.
- Ask the employer in writing. Ask whether this job will be sponsored and under which code.
- Never pay for sponsorship. A genuine employer does not charge for a job, a visa or a certificate of sponsorship.
- Keep records. Save the advert, the emails and your offer. They matter if anything goes wrong.
Irish citizens do not need permission to work in the UK: the Immigration Rules say so in their introduction, paragraph 5C (GOV.UK (opens in a new tab)).
FAQ
Questions people ask
Can a maintenance technician get a Skilled Worker visa?
Sometimes. Maintenance technician jobs are usually below degree level (RQF 6), so the job has to be on the Temporary Shortage List and meet the salary rules. Engineering technicians (3113), electrical and electronics technicians (3112) and metal working production and maintenance fitters (5223) were on the list when we checked on 24 October 2026. Whether one particular job counts depends on its occupation code, its duties and its pay, which the employer and the Home Office decide. This is not immigration advice: read the GOV.UK guidance and ask the employer.
Which engineering jobs are on the Temporary Shortage List?
Checked on 24 October 2026, the engineering-related rows are 3112 electrical and electronics technicians (standard rate £39,300), 3113 engineering technicians (£42,500), 5223 metal working production and maintenance fitters (£39,300), 5241 electricians and electrical fitters (£38,800) and 5249 electrical and electronic trades n.e.c. (£45,800). The list expires on 31 December 2026 and the Migration Advisory Committee has recommended a smaller one, so check again before you rely on it.
What does "licensed visa sponsor" mean on a job?
The employer is on the Home Office register of licensed sponsors as an A-rated sponsor on a worker route. It does not mean this job is sponsored: the employer decides that for each role. "Sponsorship offered" is a different tag: the advert itself says the employer may sponsor. Always ask the employer in writing.
Can I get sponsored with no UK experience?
It can happen, but it is harder. Sponsorship needs a licensed employer, an eligible occupation code and the minimum pay, and employers often prefer people who have already shown they can do the work. Degree-level engineering roles do not need the shortage list. Treat any advert that promises sponsorship with no experience with caution, and never pay anyone for a job or for sponsorship.
Do recruitment agencies sponsor?
Our "Licensed visa sponsor" tag excludes agencies, because an agency on the register sponsors its own staff, not the client's job. Agency adverts carry an Agency label. If an agency says a job is sponsored, ask it in writing which organisation would be the sponsor.

Sponsorship labels come from the advert's own words, the employer's own statement or the Home Office register of licensed sponsors. They are not a promise of a visa, and EDWartens does not sponsor visas.
UK employers must check that you have the right to work in the UK before you start. Ask the employer what it needs from you.
The EDWartens job board is free for jobseekers and always will be: seeing jobs, applying and joining the talent pool never need a purchase, and we never charge candidates. Jobs read from other sites are written by other people. We do not promise any interview or job.
