We are a UK job board and free training platform for automation, controls, maintenance, electrical and AI engineers, free for jobseekers and employers. The UK is short of these engineers, so we help people learn the skills, show their evidence, and get found by employers.

Our mission

Help close the UK engineering skills gap

Employers across the UK tell surveys they cannot find the engineering skills they need. In the IET's 2025 survey, 76% of engineering employers struggled to recruit for certain skills. We work on it from both ends: we help engineers learn the skills and show their evidence, and we help employers find engineers who have done so. See the numbers and sources.

EDWartens UK is run by WARTENS LTD, an automation engineering company registered in England and Wales. Our learners are electricians and technicians adding the programming side, engineering graduates looking for practical skills, engineers adding AI to their work, and anyone moving into automation.

Professional Module

Live online PLC, HMI and SCADA in Siemens TIA Portal: 5 days with an instructor in groups of up to 10, then self-paced Basic Engineering modules, a one-to-one resume session and a CPD certificate. £2,568 including VAT (£2,140 + VAT).

AI Module

Self-paced AI and machine learning for industry, with 5 graded industrial projects, booked career sessions and 12 months' access. £2,688 including VAT (£2,240 + VAT).

200+ free courses

PLC, SCADA, electrical, cybersecurity and AI, free to study. A verifiable certificate is optional: £19 including VAT when you pass.

EDWartens Lab and job simulations

Browser-based simulators for PLC, panel wiring, MCC, process, robots, a data centre and fault finding at lab.edwartens.com, plus job simulations set in UK workplaces.

Free job portal

Search UK engineering and automation jobs, with licensed visa sponsors marked. Free to use, and we never charge candidates.

Free hiring for employers

Post jobs, review applicants and search vetted engineers who chose to be found. Recruitment agencies are welcome. No fees for employers.

What is EDWartens UK?
A UK job board and free training platform for industrial automation, controls, maintenance, electrical and AI engineers. It is free for jobseekers and employers. Engineers learn free, practise in the EDWartens Lab and in job simulations, and can be vetted: our team checks their evidence and a skill check (how we vet). We are not a traditional recruitment agency, and our mission is to help close the UK engineering skills gap. See the numbers behind the skills gap.
Is EDWartens free?
Much of it is. Searching and applying for jobs, posting jobs, every free course (each lesson, note, quiz and final test), the EDWartens Lab and the first week of a job simulation are free. An optional certificate of completion for a free course costs £19 including VAT when you pass. The Professional Module and the AI Module are paid courses with their own prices on their pages. We never charge candidates to be hired, and employers pay no listing or placement fee at present. See what is free and what costs money.

You should not have to take our word for it, so here is what you can check. EDWartens UK is a trading name of Wartens Ltd, company number 15262249, and its record is public on Companies House (opens in a new tab). Our prices are on our own pages, our complaints route is published, and we say what we do not promise: we cannot guarantee a job, an interview or a placement, our certificates are not regulated qualifications, and CPD is not accredited. Who is EDWartens UK for?
Engineers and technicians in the UK, and people moving into engineering: electricians and maintenance technicians adding PLC and controls, graduates who want practical skills, and engineers adding AI. On the other side, employers and recruitment agencies who want to post engineering jobs and search vetted engineers. It is not for people who want a guaranteed job: nobody can promise that.

Is EDWartens UK accredited?
The Professional Module certificate is a CPD certificate worth 80 CPD credits, accredited by The CPD Group (provider number 785368, activity number 1019624). A CPD certificate is not a regulated qualification such as City & Guilds or an HNC. We also show the UKRLP badge: UKRLP is the UK Register of Learning Providers, and being on it identifies a provider; it is not an accreditation of the training. The AI Module and free-course certificates are certificates of completion, not accredited or regulated qualifications.
Is the training online?
Yes, all of it. The Professional Module is 5 live days on Microsoft Teams with an instructor, in groups of up to 10, using simulation (PLCSIM, Factory I/O and our free browser lab) rather than a physical rig. The AI Module and the free courses are self-paced and online.
Where are you based?
Our registered office is 8 Lyon Road, Milton Keynes MK1 1EX. It is where the company is registered, not a training centre or a place to visit, because every class is online. The wider Wartens group has offices in other countries; they are listed on this page as group offices.
Will EDWartens UK get me a job?
No. We do not guarantee a job or an interview. The Professional Module includes a one-to-one resume session, CV templates and interview preparation, and the AI Module includes booked CV review and mock interview sessions, but getting hired is down to you and the employer.
How do employers hire through EDWartens UK?
Employers can create a free account, post jobs, review applicants and search vetted engineers who have chosen to be found. There is no fee for employers, and candidates never pay us to be hired. See how it works.

  • We do not guarantee a job, an interview or a salary, and we do not quote placement rates.
  • A certificate from us is not a regulated qualification such as City & Guilds or an HNC.
  • Job simulations and Lab exercises are practice. They are not employment.
  • We do not check right to work or sponsor visas for employers. Employers do that.
  • Candidates never pay us to be hired. Employers never pay us to hire.

What the Professional Module does not do

  • The live days use Siemens TIA Portal; for Rockwell, see the Allen-Bradley Module.
  • Taught online with simulation (PLCSIM, Factory I/O and our free browser lab), not on a physical training rig.
  • A CPD certificate is not a regulated qualification such as City & Guilds or an HNC, and the course is not eligible for Advanced Learner Loans or Skills Bootcamp funding.
  • We help you prepare for applications; we do not guarantee a job.
