Commissioning jobs: what is live today

Commissioning engineers take a new or modified plant from installed to working: wiring and I/O checks, loop checks, PLC testing, factory and site acceptance tests and handover. This family mixes controls and electrical commissioning with building services (M&E and BMS) commissioning, so read the job title before you apply.

550 commissioning engineer and field service jobs are live across the UK, most often in London, Balsall Heath and Manchester. The employers with the most live jobs here, not counting recruitment agencies, are Hackajob Ltd, ICE - Industrial Cleaning Equipment and Roche. 238 adverts were placed by agencies. 58 of the jobs (11%) come from a licensed visa sponsor or say sponsorship is offered. A licence is not a promise that a job is sponsored, so ask the employer. Pay is shown on a job card only when the advert states it: we do not estimate it.

FAQ

Commissioning jobs: questions

What does a commissioning engineer do?

A commissioning engineer takes new or changed equipment from installed to working: checking wiring and I/O, loop checks, testing PLC logic, factory and site acceptance tests, and handover. The work is often on client sites, so travel is common.

Do I need PLC experience to be a commissioning engineer?

Controls commissioning roles usually want PLC and instrument knowledge. Electrical and M&E commissioning roles want electrical or building services experience. Check which kind the title means.

How do I move into commissioning from maintenance or electrical work?

Fault finding on panels, drives and instruments is the same skill set. Practise loop checks and I/O checkout in a simulation, add PLC basics, and apply for assistant or junior commissioning roles.
