Acceptable use and content standards

You may not post or send jobs that charge candidates, fake jobs, scams, discriminatory adverts, or anything illegal, and you may not harass, impersonate or spam anyone on EDWartens UK. Anyone can report a job, message or profile. We look at reports within 2 working days and act on what we find.

Last updated 28 October 2026

In short

  • No fees, no fake jobs, no scams, no discrimination, nothing illegal.
  • Report anything that worries you, from the Report link or the report form.
  • We remove illegal content quickly and can suspend accounts. You can appeal.

1. What this covers

These standards cover job adverts, messages, profiles, company pages and anything else a user posts or sends on edwartens.co.uk. They apply to employers, recruiters and jobseekers alike. They sit with the Jobseeker terms, the Employer and recruiter terms and the website terms of use.

2. Jobs that may not be posted

We remove an advert, and may close the account, if it is for:

  • any job where the candidate must pay a fee, a deposit or the cost of a kit, uniform, training, checks, a visa or a certificate of sponsorship;
  • commission-only work presented as a salary, or work with no real pay below the minimum wage;
  • a pyramid scheme, or any role that depends on recruiting others to earn;
  • money mule, reshipping or "payment processing agent" roles;
  • sponsorship, or a certificate of sponsorship, offered for sale;
  • a vacancy that does not exist, or an advert posted only to collect CVs or personal data;
  • work that involves keeping a worker's passport, debt bondage, or pay deductions for housing or travel. These are signs of modern slavery and trafficking;
  • sexual services, or anything that is illegal, including illegal working;
  • requirements that discriminate on a protected characteristic, for example an age limit, a nationality requirement, or turning away people who need a visa without a sponsorship reason;
  • hazardous work for under-18s;
  • roles with children or vulnerable adults, or needing a licence the law requires, that the employer has not told us about.

3. Conduct that is not allowed

  • Harassment, threats, hate or abuse, including in messages.
  • Sexual content, or unwanted sexual messages.
  • Pretending to be another person or company, or making a fake profile, fake review or fake company page.
  • Scraping or copying the talent pool or the jobs, or sending spam.
  • Asking anyone to pay off the site, or for identity documents or bank details, in a message.
  • Uploading someone else's personal data without a right to.
  • Describing the Vetted badge as anything other than what How we vet says it is.
  • Sharing or selling skill check questions, or having someone else take a check for you.

4. Illegal content

Illegal content is content that is an offence under UK law. The kinds most likely on a job board are fraud and scams, help with illegal immigration, human trafficking and exploitation, threats and harassment, and hate. Terrorism, child sexual abuse and other priority offences are also illegal, and we remove them and report them to the authorities.

We take it down quickly once we are aware of it, which may be because someone reported it or because our checks flagged it. We report to the police, the National Crime Agency or another authority where the law requires or it is right to. Repeat offenders lose their accounts.

5. How we protect people

  • Before publishing: we verify every employer and review its first job. Jobs from verified employers can go live after automatic checks, and our team checks them afterwards.
  • Automatic checks. These are fixed rules, not AI. On job text they look for wording that may discriminate, fee wording and common signs of a scam, such as moving candidates to a chat app. In messages they block requests for money, or for bank or card details. A flag sends the job to a person. Nobody is rejected by these checks alone.
  • After publishing: we act on reports, and may pause an advert, hide a profile, limit messages or suspend an account while we look.
  • Consistency: we apply these standards in the same way to everyone, whether the employer is large or small.
  • We cannot check every advert, and adverts listed from other sites are not checked by us. Read Safe job search.

Checked 28 October 2026: user-to-user services in the UK must assess the risk of illegal content, let people report it easily, and explain their protections in their terms. This page is part of that explanation.

6. How to report

  • Every job, company page and profile has a "Report" link, and every message thread has one beside the messages. You can also use the report form and give us a link or ID.
  • Choose what is wrong: a fee or scam, discrimination, not a real job, trafficking or exploitation, harassment, privacy, or something else. Add details so we can act.
  • We acknowledge your report when you send it. A person first looks at it within 2 working days, and we tell you the outcome if you gave us an email address.
  • If someone is in danger, call 999 first. Report fraud to Report Fraud (formerly Action Fraud) on 0300 123 2040, or in Scotland to Police Scotland on 101 (checked 28 October 2026).
  • We escalate urgent illegal content to our named online safety contact (below) the same day.

7. If we remove your content

We tell you what we removed and why, unless the law stops us. You can appeal at info@wartens.com, naming the item. A different member of staff looks at it where we can, and we tell you the outcome. If you are still unhappy, use the complaints procedure, which also covers a complaint that we are not following our own online safety duties.

8. Our online safety contact

Online safety contact. Email info@wartens.com with the subject "Online safety". Ofcom can contact us here too.

The job board, applications and talent pool are for people aged 18 or over, and we ask for a date of birth when you sign up. Users can complain to us or to Ofcom about illegal content.
